Phobias

Everyone has phobias, wheather it becomes apparent, only time can tell. It  has been said that approximately 5.3 million American adults ages 18 to 54, or about 3.7 percent of people in this age group in a given year, have social phobia. Social phobia typically begins in childhood or adolescence.

Phobias are fairly common and at some point may influence hypertension, a diagnosis is usually made only when fear or avoidance behavior is a significant source of distress to the person, or when it interferes with everyday life or ones job.  Phobias, fears , and anxiety can have harsh consequences on an individuals health.  A role for magnesium in cardiovascular diseases has been noted in that increased magnesium intake may improve serum lipid profiles. Dietary magnesium is also recommended to aid in the prevention of stroke and is important for skeletal growth and development. Magnesium may also play a role in the development of diabetes mellitus, obesity, and metabolic syndrome.

Phobias, especially minor phobias (fear of cramped areas, fear of certain animals etc) are exceedingly common. Illnesses such as social phobia or panic disorder are rampant in the US population which varies by age and sex, to roughly 10-20% of all citizens for all anxiety illness categories. More specific information can be obtained from the Anxiety Disorders Association of America, please see their website link provided.   A significant portion of the symptoms of many chronic disorders are identical to symptoms of magnesium deficiency. Studies show many people in the U.S. today do not consume the daily recommended amounts of Mg. A lack of this important nutrient may be a major factor in many common health problems in industrialized countries. Common conditions such as mitral valve prolapse, migraines, attention deficit disorder, fibromyalgia, asthma and allergies have all been linked to a Mg deficiency.
